Silk covered litz wire is a high-performance stranded conductor specifically engineered to reduce AC losses—namely skin effect and proximity effect—in high-frequency applications. The construction begins with 150 individual strands of 0.1 mm polyurethane enameled copper wire (commonly known as "solderable enameled copper wire). These strands are precisely twisted together to form a uniform litz bundle, which ensures that each strand occupies different positions within the cross-section, thereby equalizing current distribution and minimizing resistance at elevated frequencies.

Advantages include exceptionally low high-frequency resistance (compared to solid wire or simple stranded wire), direct solderability without chemical stripping, and excellent mechanical durability from the nylon wrap.
Typical applications span RF transformers, induction heating coils, wireless power transfer systems, high-frequency inductors in switching power supplies, medical devices (e.g., MRI gradient coils), and precision audio or aerospace electronics where efficiency and reliability are critical.
The combination of 150 fine solderable strands and a protective nylon cover makes this wire a versatile, production-friendly choice for modern high-frequency circuit design.
A key feature of this wire is the polyurethane enamel on each strand. Unlike traditional enamels (e.g., polyester or polyimide), polyurethane enamel allows direct soldering without pre-stripping. When a soldering iron (typically 350–400°C) is applied, the enamel film decomposes and flows away, leaving clean copper ready for tinning. This property greatly simplifies termination and reduces manufacturing time.
The entire twisted litz wire is then wrapped with a nylon yarn outer covering. This outer layer serves multiple purposes: it protects the delicate litz wire from abrasion and mechanical damage during winding; it provides additional electrical insulation between adjacent turns; and it gives the wire a smooth, uniform surface that is easy to handle and wind into coils.
